One of the first things I recommend you do in New Orleans is TAKE A TOUR! This will acclimate you and help you understand New Orleans. I designed my NOLA BIG 4 tour to do 3 things for my guests: First, my tour is Fact-Based and comprehensive, designed to educate you about the history, culture and people of this unique city. This is NOT a ghost tour. The day I am able to contact a ghost and introduce them to you will be the day I start giving ghost tours. Second, we will visit the (French Quarter, Garden District, City Park & Metairie Cemetery) 4 of the 74 official neighborhoods in New Orleans. The French Quarter is considered the heart and soul of the city but, I will bring you out of the French Quarter to explore 3 other areas of the city that most people don’t even know exist. Finally, within a couple of hours with me, you will be armed with valuable information to effectively plan and maximize your stay in this over 300 year old crown jewel I call home, NEW ORLEANS!
FRENCH QUARTER – Since 1718
The French Quarter is one of the oldest communities in the U.S. I will take you through the French Quarter and give you a history lesson and show you the historic landmarks like Jackson Square, St. Louis Cathedral – 1727, The French Market – 1791, Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Bar – 1772, Royal St., Frenchman St., Centuries Old Restaurants and Multi-Million Dollar Creole Cottages.
GARDEN DISTRICT – Since 1832
I will share with you the history of the Garden District from the early 1800’s. You will see Multi-Million $ Local and Celebrity Antebellum Mansions, like, Sandra Bullock, John Goodman, Anne Rice, American Horror Story, The Cornstalk Fence and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Homes. There is also, Lafayette Cemetery – 1833, St. Charles Avenue Streetcar – 1835, Mardi Gras – 1857 & Commander’s Palace Restaurant – 1893.
CITY PARK – Since 1854
City Park as magical and unique as the city of New Orleans. This 1,300-acre outdoor oasis has enchanted New Orleanians since 1854, making it one of the nation’s oldest urban parks. The crown jewel of City Park is the world’s largest stand of mature southern live oaks, which includes a Grand Oak that dates back over 800 years. These unique trees are known for their distinctive sculptural shape – some of the oldest trees have limbs that are twice as long as the oak is tall. You will also see the Museum of Art, Sculpture Gardens, Big Lake, Botanical Gardens, Children’s Museum, Amusement Park, Story Land, Miniature Golf, Café Du Monde – 1862 and the Cypress Swamp – 1718 that New Orleans was built upon.
METAIRIE CEMETERY – Since 1872
Named one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the country. Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. Oval shape can be traced back to its days as a race track. Became a cemetery after the Civil War in 1872. Final resting place of over 9,000 people. With over 130 acres and more than 10,000 Above Ground Multi-Million $ Family Tombs of New Orleans most prominent people like, Al Copeland – Founder of Popeyes Fried Chicken, Ruth Fertel – Founder of Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Tom Benson – Owner of the New Orleans Saints/Pelicans, Anne Rice – Vampire Novelist, P.G.T. Beauregard – Civil War General, Kings of Carnival and the Weeping Angel Statue.
